Go to www.sunbiz.org - Home to check their corporate docs and call the state to see if there have been complaints. Calling the chamber or bbb is generally a waste of time.

They have to build according to code. As you check out who the owners are on the corporate website (sunbiz) also check out the individuals. The building business in Florida is and can be a life altering experience. Just do your research.

Well we did it. We have signed the contract to build a house in Port Charlotte with Innovative Builders. So far the transactions have gone very smoothly and the people we have worked with are very nice and very helpful.

The ground breaking should be soon, hopefully everything will go as planned. We shall see!

Dear Rosie,

We are also interested in the Innovative homes. We visited their model last August.
Do you find there homes more expensive compared to other builders?
Is everything still going as planned?

Margreth

This company mentioned "Innovative Development of Florida" tanked many months ago. Just another one to fail in the current housing crisis.

And for alilbittyna's quote, which btw sounded more PR than a concerned neighbor: " ...I am building a home with them right now and I cant wait until it is done.
They are sticking to their word when they say delivery in 6-8 months from permitting.... "

Good luck on that one. I hope you are not another victim like me who were left in a big mess.

I designed a substantial number of their homes and duplex models back in '05 and '06 when they first started to become a larger more active company in Charlotte County.

I can tell you from personal experience that the owners impressed me as truly sincere professionals who understood that they just simply had to be better than the rest of their competition. As such, they focused on building homes that were better designed, safer to live in and competitively priced.

During the design phase we would often have some discussion where they would want me to design things that exceeded code requirements as I tried to explain to them that they didn't really need to go to the extra expense.

These guys were not the average "hammer swingers"; they were professional businessmen who wanted to stand out from the thousands of other builders and contractors active during those times by simply being better in all aspects of their client's experience.

I haven't had contact with them in a while and the link to their website (www.chooseinnovative.com) isn't working; it'd be a shame if they had to close down like so many other builders have had to this past year...
