I was recently offered a job in Florida and I was told to look for rental property in Sanford. The job is located in Deltona and with me being a recent college grad they thought I'd like to be centrally located between the job site and Orlando due to the college town atmosphere, therefore they thought Sanford would be a good place.

My dilemma...I've been searching and doing research on rental properties in the area, but it's pretty difficult to make a sound judgement based off pictures on the internet and ratings that you're not sure whether or not to trust. I checked to see how far Orlando is from both Sanford and Deltona and both aren't that far...but I could definitely use some help in seeing what a nice, safe, and clean place to live would be.

If any of you have any suggestions please let me know, I'd be very appreciative! Thanks!

P.S. The move will be happening in the very near future! So quick responses would be a plus....

Sanford "generally" may not be the best of areas.. some are scary.

Lake Mary is more Suburbia and safer.

What is wrong with looking in Deltona and then driving to Orlando if you want?

You would be closer to Daytona Beach also!

In non rush hour traffic, you should be able to get to Orlando in 35 minutes.

You would also be 30 minutes to the Beach!

If you want specific areas in Sanford, post in the Orlando forum.

Thanks! I'll definitely look into Deltona and I didn't know that the beach was that close either. I don't have a problem with traveling about 30-45 minutes...like I said it's not that far at all. Again I appreciate your suggestions!

Congrats on your new job and relocation. What is the job site that you'll be on? Assuming you're talking about construction, you're extremely lucky to have a job down there (or anywhere really).

PS - If you look into Sanford, try to stay near Lake Mary / I-4 area. It's nicer there. Avoid Deltona dude.

Post Don"t Sign Anything!!!

Do yourself a favor and instead of looking for a rental...look for an extended stay hotel...they offer a larger room...small kitchen...and once down there you can spend a few weekends looking for a place you can be happy in......for as many can tell you...pictures do not tell the whole story and they can be many...many...many years old......

Keep this in mind...once you sign that lease you are basically stuck for the time frame of the lease...just close your eyes and imagine being stuck in an area that you are afraid to go out in at night...or the walls are paper thin and you can hear your neighbors talking and moving about......or the building is falling down around you or in need of repair...

Take the extended stay hotel...you will pay alittle more...but the end result you will more than likely end up with a place you enjoy going home to vs. a place you can't wait for the lease to be over with...

I used to live in the area (for quite some time), and I would avoid Sanford (kind of dingy and white trashy), Lake Mary ( upper middle income suburban hell) and Deltona (lower-middle to middle income suburban hell) as a younger single person. If you're looking for reasonable access to Deltona and want to live near other younger singles I would look to either Longwood or Altamonte Springs in areas close to I-4.

In Longwood, check out apartment complexes to the west of I-4 along 434 and on Douglas Road (runs parallel to I-4 just to the west) south of 434.

In Altamonte Springs, look at the Crane's Roost area east of I-4 behind the Altamonte Mall.

Lastly avoid apartment ratings sites, anyone with an ax to grind is going to bad mouth their respective rental community. There really aren't incentives for people to leave good/nice reviews. Feel free to direct mail me specific names of communities there. I'd be happy to provide some feedback on them. Good luck!
