How would you rank the schools if the student was pre-law?

Thanks!

Just go by USNews general rankings. Obviously, UF and UM have the two best law schools as well.

For pre-law undergrad, I would throw New College back into the mix.

Michigan is a public ivy, UF is not. That said, UF is great for engineering majors and health professions. Graduates from these programs do very well. Those in other majors do not do nearly as well. To the OP: consider attending a community college close to home as a backup if you do not get into your top choice schools. Save some money, work hard, and apply to enough schools and and you will make it. Also consider attending a community college close to the school you are interested in attending and establish residency in that state. One good example is Georgia's Hope scholarship. Georgia Tech is far better than any school in Florida in engineering. Bright Futures has been cut in recent years and with Gov. Rick Scott in office that trend will accelerate. UF is also planning to implement block tuition and to raise tuition 30%. Block tuition would force you to pay for 15 credits regardless of how many courses you take. For engineering students who often take 12 credits and have a fifth year in the curriculum the cost could be significant. UF may not end up the bargain that it has been in the past.

That's certainly your opinion, but plenty of links would suggest otherwise. I agree that Florida is no U Mich, but at the same time, it's still the closest thing in the state to a "public Ivy" like UNC, UVA, UAB etc.

University of Florida (UF) in Gainesville, Florida

Don't overlook FSU. It's in the overall Top 50 Law Schools and rated #6 for its Environmental Law program. Florida State University College of Law

UF and Miami are the clear top two schools in the state. UM tuition is so much higher than UF that it makes it a pretty poor value when comparing the two.

Also FSU is not a college town. The only college town in Florida is Gainesville and maybe Deland.

They can give plenty of scholarships. Unless you just have money to waste it's a horrible value compared to UF considering they are ranked with five spots of each other throughout the last couple years.

Two things I learned when we went through this...

Visit all the schools if you can, because "fit" matters.

Don't give up applying to a school even if it's expensive. Apply... get the financial aid package, then make your decision. My son went to Miami cheaper than going to a public university. Yes.. he was on scholarship, but if your a good student with outstanding SAT/ACT scores it can be just as financially viable. I would agree that if your paying full charge UF vs. UM, UF would be the better value... but until one actually sees each financial package it's hard to determine "value."
