So apparently our esteemed Governor wants to slash funding for "no need" majors like Anthropology and Psychology and put more funding into Sciences and Technology majors because Florida needs more graduates in those fields. However someone forgot to mention to Ricky that Florida would need more employers in those fields to make his little scheme work....

Rick Scott Says Florida Does Not Need More Anthropology Majors, Daughter Holds Degree In Field

As many as there are for science and technology.

Where are all of the added graduates of science and technology programs going to find work? The educated guess would be outside the state as there aren't enough high-tech employers as it stands currently.

Anthropology and Psychology are both Sciences.
The least he could have done was pick non-sciences, for this 'argument'. Especially when there's no such thing as a degree in 'Science'.

Tech has been dwindling in FL for years. The argument you would sometimes hear is that there aren't enough qualified candidates for companies to relocate to FL but its a vicious circle. Why stay in the area if you have a tech degree if no one is hiring. People may get their tech degrees in FL but they go elsewhere for work.

The genius at work here is that if more people go into tech fields, they won't need as many psychologists to help the anthropologists who can't find work.

There is a saying that there is a fine line because genius and insanity. I leave it up to interpretation which one Rick Scott is.

Your second article paints a more accurate picture of the state of affairs and again the same old song and dance as quoted in the article above "When I go to technology gatherings in the Tampa Bay area, the biggest complaint I hear is how area tech companies cannot find people with the right kind and quality of skills needed. I don't hear much about downsizing." There was one time when FL was a major technology player but that time has passed. Without substantial luring of industries - and not just ancillary movie studio/digital animation houses as quoted in these articles - the downward trend will continue. The whittling away of NASA won't help matters either.

Florida's a diverse state that relies heavily on international trade and tourism. Combine anthropology with a fluent second and third language and I suspect that person is very marketable down here in certain sectors.

As for tech jobs, the reason why they're traditionally high-paying is that they're hard to learn. And not everyone is wired to be successful in computer science or engineering, even a lot of really bright people. We can always improve the process for getting the right kinds of people into the pipeline for tech jobs, but that's not going to solve all the state's job woes. (Or even more than a small percentage of the job woes. Remember that the golden years of California's economy were built as much on blue collar manufacturing and building as they were on the University of California system.)
