Hi, I was interested in relocating to Florida from Michigan to go to School at Northwood University in West Palm Beach. I was just wondering, if there was any other nice, safe, affordable area within an hour away, that you would say would be better for me to live. I was interested in getting an appartment, and was wondering if you could suggest any that are safe and in a decent area in a location that is close to WPB. I want to go in an area that has a decent night life because I am 21, yet want to be safe. Any ideas for location and appartments? What do you think about Boca Raton? or Fort Lauderdale

What's your budget?

Usually safe here equals more expensive on average.

I would look at Wellington to the West or Palm Beach Gardens, Jupiter or even Stuart (a little farther to the north).

You may even find something for rent in the Villages, use to be safe but that's questionable now.

For that price you can get a 1 bedroom no problem.

Fort Lauderdale is probably too far and the good neighborhoods in Ft Lauderdale proper are very pricey.

If you want to stay south of your target, then indeed Boca Raton is a good bet and within your range, but at that point why not attend FAU?

On the other hand, as mentioned, you have a pick of good neighborhoods in northern Palm Beach county. I suggest doing a forum search on some of the communities mentioned and others in north County.

Good luck!

I'd look into Abacoa Town Center in Jupiter (or the surrounding areas). It's actually right next to Florida Atlantic University's Jupiter campus, and it's a safe area with other young people around. Rents in or less than your price range as well.

Best of all it's probably 20 minutes or lso to Northwood with traffic.

Plus you'll love the convenience to the beach, gardens mall, theater, and downtown at the gardens.

I would live in Legacy Place in Palm Beach Gardens. It's just 15 minutes north of the northwood campus in wpb. They are new nice condos w/nice pool and nice 24hr gym. We own a 2/2 that we rent out for 1300/month, so you could def get a 1 br for less.

Not only is it across the street from, in my opinion, the best mall in the county, it's walking distance to the legacy place shopping center where they have opened tons of cool stuff (shopping, eating, groceries). Across the street- Downtown at the Gardens is a hot spot to hang out in the area these days (the yard house and a few other spots). you can drive 15 min. south to wpb for cityplace and other nightlife, dancing too etc.. Also a couple of cool places to hang out in Jupiter (abacoa- rooney's and jumby bay)

note-- A few of our sitters go to northwood in wpb and i think they live a little closer to campus, more like the apartments in the Villages. They'll be cheaper than pbg, but not sure on how crime is these days. We lived there 9 years ago when we moved down, for 5 years, without incident. But again, that was 4 years ago.

Good Luck! I moved here when I was 22 and had a blast!

My son attends Northwood University and has an apartment in Jupiter. Boca would probably be too far of a drive and Fort Lauderdale is definitely too far. Do NOT live in the Villages area near Palm Beach Lakes by the college. My son looked at an apartment over there and I told him absolutely not. We live in Palm Beach Gardens and it is also very nice. For the rent you are looking at, you should be able to get something San Matera or Legacy Place (Palm Beach Gardens) or Floresta(apts) or Abacoa in Jupter. If you want some advice directly from my son (he is a senior 21yrs old) please feel free to email me directly at klwj926@aol.com and I will forward to him. Good luck and Best Wishes.
