Hi yall, I'm a teacher from another state. I'm here to ask any teachers, parents, or students about what the "Florida model" is when it comes to education reform. I live in a state that will probably be moving toward the Florida education reform model after this year's elections. Any information or insights about the reforms would be nice. Thanks.

The "reform model" is basically teaching to a state administered test's answers and the overall success rate is based upon how well the students memorize the answers. Top performing schools (usually already blessed by "good geography") are well-rewarded for good scores with better funding, while schools that don't perform as well lose funding which of course in Florida's parallel dimension seems like the right thing to do. Florida is and has been a strong believer in the "No Child Left Behind" initiative, curiously named since it seems to favor dumping many a child if their scores don't meet criteria....beginning in 4th grade.

What kyle said. Poor preforming schools are blamed on lousy teaching and parenting while top preforming schools are the result of brilliant administrating.

It's quite a money maker for those companies who administer the tests-QUITE a money maker.

Education is not primarily the responsibility of the government. It is the responsibility of the parents.

If parents make the choice to allow the government to educate their children, then fine. But don't force me to pay for it when I choose to educate my children through a different means.

FSUmike: you claim that you shouldn't have to pay for other people's choice to get government education.

Yet, you have FSU in your name? lol!

You benefit from the government educating all children.

Another Tea Party/GOP supporter who has taken full advantage and succeeded from "big government", and now shrieks about it's "injustices".
