Looking for information on moving to St. Augustine.

I am only moving from the Daytona Beach area so it is not a far drive to check out things if I need to. Chances are I will be able to transfer my job up there. I have had enough down here. Not much to do, the county stinks as far as medical care, activities, beaches have been ruined. Most local restraunts and bars close up during the day and are now only catering to the "snowbirds" and could care less about the locals.

Would like to know if anyone has some information about rentals. Would like individual info, do not want to go through a realtor, because in my past experience, Real Estate companies do not fix things very quickly.

Would like something close to downtown under 700/month that accepts a cat.

would like other area info, if you know...is there a mall, are there lots of grocery shopping.... what is the beach like....clean....do they drive on it? I have never been to the beach.
Do they have festivals?
Any info and input on your living experiences here would be great.
thanks so much in advance!!

Hoping someone here can respond to the above post; we are looking towards St. Augustine as well and had the same questions. Thanks!

tonsoffunsy,

I do visit the St. Augustine area 3 or 4 times a year because of the diversity of people and things to do. Take a look at oldcity.com, lots of information is available. The beaches are great, lots of festivals of all type, many historical sites, galore of bar/restaurant. The town is well supported by the tourism, so you might not be getting away from the snowbirds/tourist. Because of your proximity to the area, go and enjoy a weekend. The local folks are superb, and are a very friendly. Shopping should not be a problem. But Jacksonville is only 35 miles (give or take) drive, local outlet stores located by I95 (15 minute drive from St. Augustine).

In the near future I’ll be looking for a property in the area, so keep me posted of your results.
