Obviously we need widespread reform in our voting process, from the top down. What can we do as residents to demand change? It's embarrassing that both New York and New Jersey in mass state of emergency and with many areas still lacking power were able to get their results in on time, yet Florida with all of it's early voting period still couldn't pull it off.

Let's start with reasons.

#1. we had 14 days of early voting. Gov, Rick Scott reduced it to 8 days.

Do not have long voting ballots and allow people who file taxes each year to optionally vote online.

Early voting ballots aren't counted until the polls close on election day. Than you have provisional and absentee ballts to count (absentee usually are allowed to come in a few days late if the postmark is by election day).

Is FL by chance still using the old "pencil and paper" ballot in some areas? In those cases each ballot has to be touched and recorded.

We had ballots in my county that you filled in the circle with special black marker like you do on multiple choice tests like the SATs etc. they can be put through a machine to count. Each provisional and absentee ballot has to be looked at by people to make sure they are legit, filled out correctly, etc.

It's a complete embarrassment. As usual the idiots who live in south Florida make the entire state a laughingstock once again

#2 Our ballot was a novel that was written mostly in legalese. Even it you studied your ballot in advance and created a cheat sheet to make voting less time consuming, it still took too much time to actually fill in the whole thing.
