Could anyone tell me what type of tree this is? We have a big one in our backyard and I see them all over down here. The red berries are so pretty.

The tree is a Dahoon Holly. It's a Florida native & great to have in the yard for the birds AND just 'cause it's so pretty!!

I'm not an expert, but I wonder if it's one of those Brazilian pepper trees.

Looks like it could be a Holly Berry but they are usually bushes not trees though some do get bigger.

I agree with Jungle G! It is a Dahoon Holly... I have those all over my yard in GA and at the both homes here in Ocala.

The leaves a heavy and thick right?

Some of mine where as tall as 12 ft. I kept the smaller ones shaped like Topiaries (those are at the Atlanta house).

That is definately NOT a brazillian pepper. I have been removing Brazillian Peppers for FREE from anyone within driving distance of my Bobcat. If it's a Dahoon it will lose some or all of its leaves in winter. Also will have white flowers. You can also make tea out of its leaves.

This is the Brazillian pepper. If you live near me my offer still stands.

Thanks for doing that Tallrick!! I'm a landscape designer & those *^%$ Brazilian peppers are taking over a lotta native plants!! I pull seedlings outta my yard CONSTANTLY!! I try to educate folks on planting natives & non-invasives constantly!!

The trees are pretty (and for some reason I love the smell of the crushed leaves) but they are definitely outta control!!

I fought the battle of the Brazillian pepper ever since I moved here. Now there are none left on my street! They always seemed to grow in chain link fences, and when someone bulldozes a lot the seeds spread everywhere! I still find a few seedlings in the yard, but there's so many native trees now that the invasives can't grow. They are horrible trees as they grow upwards, leaving dead twigs protruding out to poke you. Luckily they have a shallow root system and are easily plucked with a Bobcat. I mulched every one I pulled out with a wood chipper and used it in my own yard. Strangely they never grew back.
