Why? Death is a part of life. Smoking and drinking obviously increases the chances of it happening sooner.

Sorry you had to go through that Mateo. That was certainly not heat stroke though. Too much drinking and smoking, so either a heart attack or stroke. Who knows what other health issues he had as well...

Has nothing to do with heat stroke that's for sure.

For some. But statistically, drinking and smoking increase your chances.

It was probably an aneurism followed by a heart attack. No the heat wasn't the cause, obviously. And it wasn't because of 3 glasses of Miller Light or a few cigarettes, either. That stuff doesn't help, of course, but to point the blame towards it is ridiculous. Millions of people everyday do that.

It's cumulative. If the guy was in his sixties, I doubt he just started smoking and drinking recently. When you live long enough, and have more than a few friends die, you start to correlate cause and effect.... and while it's not a perfect indicator, it's statistically significant.

Was he overweight too? Then you'll have all three...smoking, drinking, and being overweight. The factors listed as contributing to more deaths than anything else.

And if someone was going to drink two pitchers of beer...by themselves...at NOON...I would say that they have a drinking problem. Contrary to what you might think, normal people don't drink that much.

If its normal for people to drink that much where you work, it's no surprise that its common for you to see people pass out. It has just as much to do with the alcohol as with the heat, as alcohol is a diuretic and is the last thing that you should be drinking much of while outside in the hot sun.

I am so sorry that you had to experience that. It doesn't sound like heat stoke tho. Drinking plenty of water is a must in FL tho.

They were there at Noon and ordered more drinks at 2:40pm and hadnt ordered anything to eat, just more beer? And he was smoking. I'm going to guess overweight too.

As others said, heat stroke has symptoms that will occur, especially flushed skin. This guy just (unfortunately) probably had a bad combo of health problems plus the drinking and smoking, etc.
