What is your view:

Florida may become the next state to bar drivers younger than 18 from using cell phones behind the wheel, with some legislators saying they're alarmed by teens text-messaging while driving.

Good idea!

I had a late teen/early 20's young lady nearly sideswipe me while on the road the other day !

She was busy gabbing on her cell phone and had to merge into my lane. Never mind that she knew we were narrowing to one lane and she could have merged a half-mile back .

The kicker is - I'm driving a huge silver box (Honda Pilot)! I'm kind of hard to miss if you're paying the least bit of attention, y'know?!

And none too soon in my opinion. I believe cell phones should be prohibited while driving or, at the very least, turn on the speaker or hands free option - people really do not concentrate on the road while babbling away on their cells.

I agree. Cell phone use should be banned for any driver. I cannot tell you how many times I've seen drivers in the left lane of I-95 impeding traffic and yakking on the cell phone. I've seen people get on the phone the minute they get in the car. I've seen people talking in elevators, in restaurants, movies and even at a funeral.

There is no reason for it. No one needs to talk on the phone so badly that other people can hear it, or so it bothers other people.

I would favor more restrictions on cellphone use in cars, especially among teenagers. People shouldn't be multitasking when they are driving. Teens especially often have enough problems driving and they don't need the distraction. Heck, too many teens drive anyways, but that's another issue altogether.

This is a great idea. It will cut down a LOT on auto accidents!

I actually think they should ban all cell phone usage on freeways unless traffic is stopped or you are calling 911.

As someone who is facing the drivers permit in a few months with their only child, I'm all for a cell phone ban. Not just for teens, but for everyone. It's dangerous, distracting and has the potential to be deadly.

I've been driving home the point to my son that he will not be allowed to use his cell phone when driving for at least the first year. I've even wondered if there is a way to track that.

I have heard that police will only be able to give a ticket if they pull the driver over for something else first. Kinda how seat belt laws used to be. In my opinion, cell phone use should be banned for EVERYONE when driving. And I think police should be able to pull these people over for no reason other than driving while on the phone.

Lightbulb Safety

This is a safety problem for everyone regarless of age group. We as drivers are multitasking way too much. The problem might not be you but the other driver and questions really hit home as soon as a family member or friend gets killed or in an accident.

Just think:

Cellphone
make-up
eating
computer
navigation system
poor driving habits
keeping and eye on the other drivers
just late and speeding to get someplace--regarless we are late

These are some of the things that we do, but we don't realize that we do. Let's get back to driving only, listen to a good song and enjoy the ride. Issued thickets for using phones and confiscate the phone, notify the insurance company and increase the rates....
