Last jobs report shows 14,000 new jobs created in FL last month. FL has had the 3rd largest jobs growth in the nation. Looking good.

Interestingly, business and professional jobs are some of the fastest growing jobs in Florida:

Was this article a plug for real estate, it was hard to tell. Dont tell me THOSE jobs are back again

And the bubble keeps on churning. We need high tech, we need manufacturing, we need FRONT offices not back offices...

Not really. 11,260 of the 14,580 new jobs created in Florida over the first quarter of 2014 were in the service sector. Of course no distinction is made between part-time or full-time positions in these numbers, and if one has any sense of the economy here would tell you most are probably part-time positions (no benefits) and pay less than $10 an hour. Hardly something to cheer about...

It's certainly good news that jobs are being created, not lost, in Florida.

But I do wonder about the back story behind the numbers. How many people are back at work, but at much lower pay? How many people are severely underemployed (i.e., those with college degrees flipping burgers)? How many employees have gotten minimal raises in the past five years, or no raises at all? And how many people have simply stopped looking for work? Bottom line is that the jobs numbers are a starting point, but the economy here probably isn't robust yet. It's safe to say that it's very important for the economy to diversify and for the reliance on real estate, development and travel/tourism in many parts of the state to decrease so that Florida isn't as susceptible to boom/bust cycles.

Statistics are usually a pretty good indicator of the reality. Here's another example which should help you extrapolate some idea of the economics involved.
