I am thinking of purchasing a condominium in South Daytona. How safe is the area south of Beville Rd to Dunlawton along Ridgewood Ave? The property I am looking at is about 3/4 mile north of Dunlawton on Ridgewood
Are there areas to avoid in South Daytona?
Is public bus service available on Ridgewood? Are these safe to use?

Ridgewood is not the best area at all. I would never invest there. Tons of rundown hotels line the street up and down if you haven't noticed. The same with Nova. If I were to buy something, i'd buy in Daytona Beach Shores on beachside. Hopefully you're getting a great deal.

mateo384, thanks for your input
How is the ridgewood part in south Daytona. I came across this 2012 post from you which seems to suggest that ridgewood is OK in the south Daytona part

I actually Ridgewood is nice in the South Daytona region. Yes the further north from there isn't great, but that area into Port Orange is fine by me.

Yes, there are buses. They actually run back and forth on Ridgewood, and the Dunlawton crossing is a good place to catch one. You can also catch one at that intersection to go to New Smyrna Beach (short, scenic ride), and if you cross Ridgewood on Dunlawton, you can catch a bus that runs beach side on Atlantic Ave through Daytona Beach Shores to downtown Daytona (the Votran bus terminal is a dump though). We're bus riders who live in South Daytona, as you can tell. That's not my favorite bus line, as it can get somewhat ghetto, but it's not the worst line either. In the mornings, when working people ride it, it's fine. The ride out to NSB is almost always very pleasant and quick.

As mentioned, Ridgewood is a bad street pretty much from end to end, but the South Daytona area you mention is not too bad. Those condos should be fine. We really like South Daytona. Dull, safe and boring. Culturally, we despise it (what culture?), but that is just the way it goes at the price we pay, and we love our home. We don't like what's on either side with Daytona and Port Orange, but for completely different reasons. There are really no areas in South Daytona to avoid, unlike Daytona, but the worst part is around Ridgewood and Big Tree, where there's a senior mobile home park that is not literally a senior park, it's a bit rough. And one block from that, running all the way into Daytona, is a street on the Halifax River that has million dollar homes on the river side, and low income apartments on the other side of the street, backing up to Ridgewood. Very strange.

I was raised in So Daytona, family is still there and I am there every week.
Ridgewood Ave in So. Daytona and Port Orange is a safe area you could walk it every day with no problems, The area you are talking about sounds like it is across from the Business park off of ridgewood south of the sunshine mall.
The whole area is nice and quiet, you are going to have some issue's wherever you go but So Daytona is nice.
Votran runs all up and down US1 and can get you where ever you need to go.
For shopping you have all of Port Orange, for lunch check out the Gourmet Kitchen in the Sunshine Mall.
Buy your condo and enjoy So Daytona
