Or Seattle, DC, Denver.

For what it's worth, I know that there are sub-communities in both the Tampa bay area and Orlando trying really hard to make their respective cities attractive to intellectual types. But almost inexplicably, there are even more people trying just as hard to maintain the status quo.

Florida's a weird place. So much potential (because of the topography and its 'gateway' location between the US and points south), but I swear it seems like the voting majority are a bunch of old, ignorant deadbeats, who abhor putting forth any effort for the common good. It's like they're anti-civilization or something. I don't what to call it.

There are small pockets of nerds in any city, but you won't find a "tech hub" in the traditional sense like you will in states like CA, VA, CO, WA; at least, not yet. And yeah, the Tampa Bay region is really trying to change that for itself, but it has a looooong way to go.

I heard the Tri Lambs have a chapter at UCF, but I don't know if they are recruiting?

Ok, may be someone can say something else if I add more...
Isn't San Francisco and most of California sort of like an equivalent to Miami and Las Vegas?
Also, I have been in other places in Florida (most of Fort Lauderdale and some of Pompano Beach, also in Tampa and Orlando) and some looked "intellectual" friendly to me, at least much more than where I live in Miami for sure.

And, wouldn't it make sense that more expensive neighborhoods would have more educated people? (since they would need more academic preparation to have jobs that let them pay the higher rates, I guess). Based on the replies, I get the sense that you guys don't think that those neighborhoods in Fl would have what I seek either. Is that the case? (even though the ones who live there are likely to have better jobs?)

I am sure that I will get a good starting job, so I would be able to pay $800-$1100 for rent, plus the rest. I would work in an IT company, but in the business side, not in a team of engineers or developers.

For the person that recommended MENSA, I think that won't work for me. It takes a tested IQ score in the top 3% I think to get membership for that, and I got an IQ score that puts me in the top 6%. So yes, I am smart, but no genius and, apparently, not enough for MENSA. Besides, I look and act quite normal; the truth is that a group where the "nerd" factor is too extreme may not be my ideal group either. However, I interact and socialize well with everyone, I don't care if they average smart, very bright, or not bright, as long as they are not ghetto style. I just want educated people to befriend and to go out with and date. That is looking like a challenge where I live now...
