Hi Florida friends,

For my sister's 40th birthday, my brother and I are taking her on a long weekend getaway in late March. Some of our criteria included nice weather (were from NJ), good music and nightlife, and possibly places to hike or explore during the day. Are there any cities in Fl that could possibly offer this?

Thanks so much advance,
Jeremy

Check out St Petersburg/St Pete Beach and Pass-A-Grille Beach. Downtown St Pete has a lot going on with museums (Salvadore Dali and Chiluly), great shops and restaurants/bars, you can rent bikes and ride along (or walk) Tampa Bay for miles. The beaches are beautiful and highly recommend Pass-A-Grille Beach at the southern tip of the peninsula. It has a Key West-vibe with a tiny downtown area with a couple of nice restaurants/bars and a feeling of "faraway".

I was just going to recommend the St Pete area too. We like to stay at the Hollander Hotel & walk the 4 blocks east to the waterfront. Beautiful paved path that takes you around the marina. Great shops & restaurants.

Also worth a visit is Ft. DeSoto State Park. We live in Gainesville & love to drive over for a long weekend. Enjoy!
