Hi, I am applying for a USDA Direct Loan and wanted Citrus county to be approved in. But the USDA called me and told me I am overqualified for Citrus County. They gave the options of Alachua, Gilchrist, Sumter, Volusia, Lake, Flagler, and Seminole. Can anyone give me input about small, mini farms in each area that are likely to have areas like this ? I have to tell her by tomorrow. Can you all please help?? Thanks

What kind of input are you looking for specifically?

I would like a very pretty area with Spanish moss and a 1-2+acre farm so I can have chickens, ducks, etc. Very rural and private. I don't know about these other counties so I am in the dark and may as well throw a dart.... Beach not very important we can drive there. I don't want to be around a lot of animal abusers that tie their dogs out to dehydrate in the FL sun. Don't need a Walmart but Publix would be nice. I guess I am saying where is there a farming community out of these counties I can call home....? Thank you Is Sanford that kind of place ? I am also leaning towards Sumter, I don't know why but it is close to Homosassa where I have friends. (2),,,

Of the counties you mentioned, I'd go for Gilchrist. Maybe around Trenton. Nice safe small town with low cost of living and low property taxes.

Does the USDA really loan money to people who have no experience and no business plan but just want to keep some poultry in the yard and make last minute decisions on where they should do this?

I would recommend Lake County where you'll see a good bit of the private tree-covered landscape you like along with a substantial agricultural community and everyday services nearby versus a long schlep away. Check out the SR44 corridor east of Eustis, as well as the CR435 and CR437 areas around Sorrento and Mt Plymouth.

I am leaning toward Sumter County because it is close to Citrus County where I wanted to move to. Also I have been there and it seems to be pretty country. But I value everyone's opinion whatever it may be......
