I am moving from Maryland to Florida within the next couple of years and I can't decide between Boynton area and North Port. I have heard that the gulf side of Florida is all around better and North Port has great schools, weather, crime rate, and cost of homes is very affordable. Does anybody have any personal insight into which area is better for a 25 year old with two elementary school aged children to move to?

Must haves include great schools, opportunities for my son to excel in sports (he loves basketball), and I HAVE to be near by (within an hour) of good clubs or night life. I know it seems like a lot to ask for but any information is helpful!

Given your criteria Boynton Beach would be a better option. It has excellent schools too (the west side neighborhoods near the FL Turnpike), plenty of youth activities and recreation plus it's a good bit more desirable for a young single Mom in terms of social opportunity versus North Port. The Gulf side in general skews quite a bit older and where not is much more family-oriented with little nightclub action. The Tampa-St Pete area is the only real exception to that on the Gulf side, and might be a good option for you that combines the best of both worlds in terms of singles life and good schools along with youth activities.
