I'm sure I've seen about 1,000 or more, but I'm not a stay-in-town guy at all. I go out and hang with the wildlife when I can.

A long time ago in Florida with my husband, we parked by a pond. While he went off to take pictures I went over to get a closer look at the pond. Then I saw something slowly rising up from the pond and it was a huge alligator.

Thank goodness I wasn't that far from the car because I just hopped into the car, slammed the door and watched as the gator came ambling along past the car right where I had been standing. (Don't know if he was feeling hungry that day...)

Lived here 33 years. See them nearly every day around the canals, ponds, and even the back waters of the beach. Sometimes they wash up on shore. I grew up on a canal as a kid and we saw them daily there too.

I've been in Florida 8.5 years and have only seen one in a canal, but it was a young small one. I wouldn't have known it was an alligator unless someone told me. Most of that time I lived in Broward and never saw one there, the one I saw was in a city in Lee county on the SW coast.
