I'm seeing a lot of people freaking out on these forums about red tide. While red tide could occur on the Atlantic Coast of Florida, it is not common, not prevalent, there are no special monitoring of beaches like Mote does in Southwest Florida.

So, if you are disturbed by naturally occuring red tide that has been going on for centuries that be worsening because of man made environmental toxins and water releases from Lake Okeechobee, it might be time to consider the Atlantic Coast of Florida.

There are lots of nice spots in the stretch of coast from Vero Beach through St. Augustine that may not be on people's radars.

That's in the lagoons, not on the ocean or beaches.

It’s all fake news. A conspiracy to hurt our respectable president and his honorable party

People are forgetting our previous summers. Our coasts have always smelled like dead fish every summer. About the algae bloom, green waters actually attract more tourists because those waters look more beautiful in pictures. Bacterial infections just make us stronger by naturally selecting the strongest Floridians among us. Some people just watch too much CNN, snowflakes.

The Atlantic Ocean off Atlantic Beach was insufferably hot in the summer during the late '60s when I lived there. I couldn't swim without sweating. I wonder what it's like, now?

It will vary by year. Red tide is normal for southwest FL more than any other place. I fished offshore for a living for over 30 years and seen it all.

<<In Cocoa Beach, some canals turned red due to algae blooms. Although tests identified the algae as Fibrocapsa Japonica, and when it was found in southwest Florida, it was shown as nontoxic. But floating fish were observed in these canals.

The algae reduces the oxygen in the water affecting the fish and manatees. Authority and scientists do not discount the possibility that another type of algae bloom could be present in Cocoa Beach canals, which are also harming marine life.>>

"Fake news" in Trumpie speak means, "I don't what to hear about it, even if it's true."

<<The problem has grown exponentially during that period: 169 toxic blooms were reported in 40 states in 2017, compared to only three blooms in 2010.>>

If this is satire, which apparently is the goal given its ridiculousness, it's not very good IMO for myriad reasons.

That's because the water releases are sent to Lee county instead of the east coast which has much more money and is much closer to Lake O. I just saw on the news that Naples is not affected, there is a lot of money there, if it was affected things would be solved sooner.

Respectable & honorable aren't words that should be associated with lying con men.
