I have been unable to find accurate data regarding this phenomenon. Please post any links on this thread to current, viable data.
I'd also like to know how many people are leaving, so we can have a net gain/loss number.

Being a California transplant myself, I did a little research. I can't provide the links but I have heard 1000 people move to Florida each day, and 900 Floridians move out of the State.

Don't forget to include the number of people who die each day while domiciled in Florida.

I would wager that in the end Florida is losing legal population.

900 number seems high, from what I recall the local reported about 400 are moving out. So there is still a gain of about 600 a day.

From EconSouth: "The population of Florida will grow 80 percent in the next 20-30 years. That's 12 million people, or the same as the entire population of Pennsylvania moving here on top of the population here now. That means from 1,000 to 1,100 people a day moving to Florida."

South Florida Sun-Sentinel reported on June 4, 2006 that though 400 people a day are moving out of Florida to other states, 1000 a day are still moving here.

Florida's steady growth is expected to continue, making the state the third largest in the country soon, passing New York.

Statistics from the Bureau of Economic and Business Research at the University of Florida show nearly 1,000 more people move to Florida every day than leave.

"If you look at the population estimates for the state of Florida, they're increasing," said Christopher McCarty, director of the University of Florida Survey Research Center. "There may be people leaving, but there are people moving in to take their place - and more than that." From the St. Petersburg Times - August 12, 2006

I am going to look at those other reports. At the end of the day, nothing will be accurate until the next census. I think all of these reports did not foresee the insurance factor. I may email Mr. McCarty to ask him his opinion on this.

the 1000 ppl moving into state of fla was NET. i know you probably want to hear that we are losing some of our population to other states, but were not.

couldnt find data for 2004 or after, but if you do the math, you can see that fla gains (approximately) 300,000-325,000 b/w each yr in the info given. if you divide the increase in population of say, 325,000 by 365 days in a year, then you can see that that approximately 900 residents moved here each day during those yrs. that would also be a NET GAIN.

What is your problem with me? Is it such a big deal that I have come here to find this data?

Am I a bad person because I like to rely on facts instead of word of mouth?

I don't really care if people are moving to other states or not. I am trying to ascertain how the phrase "A 1,000 people a day move to Florida" became so popular.

I have one problem with Florida: housing affordability.

This is a known problem. It can be directly attributed to insurance problems, speculation, and shady lending. The phrase "1,000 people a day..." is a straw man to inflate prices that aren't supported by local markets.

I am only going to write this one more time: I like Florida. I am not negative. I do not create trends, news, or data. I share them here.

I think macguy is the only other rational person on this board. From what I can tell he owns a million dollar home. I rent a one bedroom apt. We both believe there are issues. Don't you get it? It's not just people that "missed out."

Also, thank you for sharing that data. I am really interested in 2005 and 2006.
