My husband and I relocated to central Florida 4 years ago and are not happy with our choice.

We’re mid-50s and retired so jobs aren't a concern. We love hiking, biking, a lively music scene, dog-friendly, preferably on or near either coast. Our max house budget is about $500k and we’d like a house not a condo.

Within those parameters where would you choose?

St. Pete, Dunedin, and Sarasota immediately come to mind.

What city are you currently in? That might give us a better idea of knowing what you don’t like.

The Villages. I grew up in Dallas, TX and we moved to FL from Las Vegas.

We’re looking for more vibrant, diverse, and... urban. We didn’t realize we’d miss living in a city but we do. A lot.

We’d love to find the equivalent of Austin, TX here in Florida.

St. Pete is definitely the city you’re looking for.

St Pete would my recommendation as well, specifically neighborhoods like Historic Uptown, Euclid-St Paul, Crescent Heights, Allendale Park/Allendale Terrace or Magnolia Heights where you'll get stable, resident-involved neighborhoods and close proximity to downtown or the beaches.

St. Pete for sure. $500k can buy a solid house but beware of sinkholes, flood zones or high hurricane risk areas. But downtown st pete is amazing.
