Default Equine Virus hit here quite bad

I live in the NJ town that includes "Monmouth Racetrack", and will be the host of the 2007 Breeders Cup.

We did get hit at the end of the racing season with the virus - lost about 6 horses - but many pulled from racing while investigated/quarantined. All horses were banned from being brought in or outside the premises for several weeks. I know it put some doubt in the minds that the town would be able to pull off the Breeders Cup. A neighbor or mine is the equine vet responsible for the horses at MRT..much of it has been kept very hush, hush...and was and is much worse than communicated.

I used to work with the Show Jumping rider who lost her Grand Prix horse when this first started.

The Wellington area also hosts a series of horse shows that are scheduled to begin in 3 under a month. Usually, many of the riders head down there after the holidays. This year they are being asked to wait, and some have even decided to do the west coast winter shows this year instead of the Florida circuit.

The potential damage to the economy in the Wellington area is huge.
