Default where 2 retire?

Hello everyone, I live in North Miami, Fl. I know it may seem a little early to think about retirement (13 yrs. to go) I have been searching for a great place to retire. The best place I came up with is Gainesville Fl. My wife and I are looking to buy a couple of acres and a home there. Though I am planning to retire, I am very far from sittin' on a rocking chair watching the grass grow; thats what makes the college atmosphere seem inviting. We are both Christians and were happy to see how many churches that are in Gainesville (we attend a Baptist church in Miami). I was talking to a friend about our choice and was told there is a lot of racism in the Gainesville area. We are both Puerto Ricans and while I know there is racism everywhere I know some places have more than others. Your thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Gainesville has some really beautiful areas. My uncle bought a summer house there and loves it. It is a very church and family orientated town. I don't think racism is that bad any more. The area is getting pretty diverse especially with UF being there. You will still run into some ignorant people and maybe a little more of them there than you are used to in Miami that is for sure. I would suggest getting a summer rental and spend a week or two there and see how it fits you. Another good choice might be Tallahassee. It also has it's college atmosphere while still being a laid back town.
