I guess if 1000 people move to Florida a day....it has to have something special going for it.

I am 50 and have lived in Florida all of my life. The couple of times I've moved to other states, I've always returned to Florida after a year or two.
I always say I come back because my family is here....but who knows....maybe I really love the place!!

Just me.

We are leaving next Sat. to spend Christmas and New Years in CT.

Bringing my resume and a couple of nice suits as well. If i'm lucky, my family and I will get our best Christmas present ever.

I happen to like the panhandle area....Yes there are hurricanes and bad storms..So what....there is crappy weather in every state...pick your poison and deal with it....Don't care much for inner Florida, but the beach communities are wonderful ...at least for us!

Makes sense. With the downturn in the economy, less "Americans" are moving to Florida, while foreigners from places like Latin America may still seek Florida's shores.

Still grates my nerves, however, that the press and census bureau lacks the sophistication and education to understand that HISPANICS can be of any race:

A German couple that moved to Argentina in the 1950s has kids. Those kids move to Florida. Suddenly, those Argentinian born Germans are "Latinos" and "Hispanic Whites" that magically get to be minorities. Isn't America great?

Yup, whites keep leaving, and minorities keep moving into FL. I think this will continue up the coast and it will be like one big Miami/Orlando in 15 - 20 yrs.

lost 1,200 kids in the past two years. Our neighboring district lost 2,300 just last year. These kids aren't up and leaving all by themsleves.

No, but there are probably a number of different reasons for that.

For example, one contributing factor could be an increase in the number of kids being homeschooled. For example, this article claims that there are now 55,000 kids homeschooled in Florida, 34% more than in 2001: News & Commentary Home Page » Florida homeschooling said to be growing

Two went back to Michigan because of financial reasons and one girl went to private school. I work 1:1 with her younger brother. The parents wanted the girl to repeat a grade because she was "socially immature" and the public school would not keep her back. The private school went along with their wishes. The parents are very independently wealthy, as in in they don't work for a living, and I suppose money talks in private school. Actually, I think at some point even her brother may be leaving the public school system. I cannot see this couple homeschooling their children, even though they have the time and means to do so.

As for the 2,300 kids in Lee County, the Ft. Myers area now leads the country in foreclosures. Do you think there might be any connection between the two?
