I checked our area and we had many SOLD signs. The market is getting back slowly to the pre hurricanes prices. A new development is selling the 1425 SQ FT town homes for $145K, this is new. Lots of competition in the area...

This is turning into a buyers market

North Florida is still a nice place.

Sunrico, I was thinking the same thing that Firemed just posted. It almost seems like north Florida is a totally different state because even the housing market seems so much different up there then in central or southern Florida. I think a lot of people can afford a nice condo or townhouse for 145,000, but what a lot of us can't afford is 300,000 plus for a home.

I just spent a few days in Bradenton. Amazingly, almost all of the For Sale signs that were up around the neighborhood where my in-laws live in Dec. 2005 are still up. There are just as many in my old neighborhood in North Port. Some of those homes were on the market when I listed in Aug. 2005.

I looked at one of theses homes. It was a 1950's 2/1 that has not had one new thing put in (other than carpet) since it was built. Seller is asking $200K for this house, and can't understand why it isn't generating any offers.

Allstate Builders is advertising brand new 3/2/2 homes for $159K in south Sarasota and Charlotte counties.

Do you have a link to the zillow rumor/story?
If it gets bad you can always get the county records...

Huh. I checked zillow.com for my house in Port St. Lucie, and they were showing a price. They had the map showing a house on another block, had the square footage wrong and were priced lower than houses have sold here recently, but they were showing prices.

But, some people seem to think that PSL is not in South Florida, so I picked a random zip code in Boca Raton. Prices showing. Since that is maybe still not South Florida, I picked a residential area in Miami. Yep, all the prices there.

Still not disbelieving the claim made by the OP, I zoomed to Key West. After all, you can;t get much more South and still be in Florida -- but, prices still showing.

I think this myth is busted...

The actual housing market is way better than central/south Florida. A $250K in our area is worth at least $500K in the south. Many new homes are starting in the $180K allowing new or first time buyers a more reasonable cost for a home.

A $300K home is a mansion on this end of the woods....

Well, they are further South, but they ain't in Florida. Nice place, though, I think I would have moved there in my younger days if I hadn't had a family. But, my DW was not enamored of the idea...
