Do Palmetto bugs infest homes like cockroaches do?

Or are they more just big outside type bugs that sometimes get in the house - like a June bug?

Mabye it's the euphremistic name, but I've never thought of Palmettos as "dirty" the way I would a cockroach. Hard to explain.

One thing though, the Palmettos can fly, which can be a surprise if nobody told you that particular fact.

Dip netting frogs out of the pool (before chlorine kills them) was a normal thing, especially in the summertime.

One tree frog somehow got into one of our toilets (I'm assuming it came through the plumbing) at the house I grew up in. It "presented itself" while one of us was sitting down. We still laugh about it.

No, it's the german cockroaches you want to keep out of your home. I've been living in FL since the 70's, and simple upkeep w/ a pest control does the trick. I saw more Palmetto bugs further south, but don't see any where I am now in the panhandle. We built this house in 2002 and have never had any type of roach indoors.

The worst infestation of bugs I have ever seen was in a house we inspected in the midwest. We didn't get there until after dark. When we went in and flipped on the light must have been a million german roaches. Never have I seen that in FL...Pest control is a way of life in any state as far as I'm concerned.

ENY237/MG225: Florida Woods Cockroach, Eurycotis floridana

This is what natives call Palmetto bugs... they're more likely to be found in wooded or suburbans settings. They are mostly seen outside.

Me too! I have heard of that happening to other people and from time to time I do look just to be safe. It's funny, I love animals and have no fear of any of them except frogs! I am going on a cage dive with great white sharks next year and have no fear but seeing a frog on tv even sends me into a panic lol. I hate those suckers with a passion and the feeling is probably mutual. I swear they are out to get me. Thank God for the two snakes in my front yard who protect me from those gross things lol.

Correct, they are cockroaches but they don't really infest houses like the German cockroaches that you have up north do. They tend to fly in or squeeze under weatherstripping or climb up the plumbing - usually during the rainy season.

It happened to me too. We live on a lake and have alot of toads and tree frogs certain times a year. This is a true picture I posted on another forum back in Nov. 2007 of a tree frog in our toilet. The only reason I got a picture was because my digital happened to be on the dresser and my dh was asleep. I didn't want to wake him, but had to show him.

I grabbed a container to catch him in and then let him go outdoors.
