Starting Sept. 1st Floridians will have to deep deeper into their pockets for drivers license renewals, title and registration, replacing lost licenses and registration renewals. Some fees are going up as much as 150%. The new fee increases do not include the extra you pay if you have vanity places.

If you due for license or registration renewal after Sept. 1st you can always consider getting it done earlier.

Unhappy This has got to be illegal

I am disabled and 65. I am on a fixed income of $965 a month. My rent and utilities run $670 a month. (no cell phone) I save all year to pay for my car insurance $450 a year. That's the minimum coverage. I average 3000 miles each year except when I go on a trip. I pay for a lot of meds for my disability. Basic food is $200 a month. Everythig and I mean everythig is scheduled or rationed. No movies for me. No eating out. 1 tank of gas a month. I Drive to Bay Pines and a few doctors and that's it. I live in a trailer to save money and there are thousands just like me in Florida if not this county. Where is the prior notification. Did we vote to change this tax? Is there a hardship clause? Help us. This is completly unjust. Someone who can afford it please sue. This just isn't right. You don't have to go to Afganistan to find the terrorists in my life. This is one of them.

I agree with you 100% Bill, but who are we to stand up to almighty Big Brother? The government does what it wants, and who is going to stop them? They have the police and the military to quell any real protests. We should be grateful that they let us keep ANY of our income!! (sarcasm).

^^^What we do is find out who approved this, and don't vote for them again. And the more people that do this, it will send a message.

Default Vanity Plates

I've got vanity plates so the increase will be more on those my tags are up in Aug for two cars, I will renew for 2 yrs, so I will save $$$$. But those who are on fixed incomes, I hear ya. seems that everything is going up, except our Social Sercurity and we won't get a increase for two years.

The state is nickel and dimeing us to death.

Default auto fees

you are so right. i moved to rockledge in feb from ga. had to register my car and buy new tag. $218.00.
the $100.00 registration fee is going to $250.00 on sept. 1st.tags will also go up an additional 35% as told to me by tag office. the cost of living here continues to go up,while jobs keep being lost. i am a nurse and cant find a job any closer than orlando (120 miles round trip),currently paying $775.00 for 1 bedroom apt. plus utilities. try that for a while with no job or prospects for a job. im not griping, just stating the facts. i will probably sell some of my furniture and get the money to go back home where family is to have a place to live. florida is very nice, just be sure you have a job to come to and can afford to be here.

I realize this thread is about a year old, and I honestly haven't read trough the whole thing, but I have a question or two.

Are your licenses renewed every year, every 2 years, or what?

That fee doesn't seem too bad, but if it's every year yeah it gets expensive (here in CT they switched to every 6 six years so teh price winds up being $10/year, but who knows now; I will find out this summer if it went up, LOL).

Also, the registration fee, even increased, is not bad compared to here - $85.

P.S. - I am asking to get some knowledge before I become a resident there
