Do these two cities have a "tense" relationship in Florida? Is there competition, since they are the two largest cities?

Neither city really thinks about the other much. It is a non factor.

I have lived in both areas and don't remember anyone saying anything about the other.

No rivalry that I'm aware of either. I doubt the people in one of those cities spends too much energy on wondering what the group in the other city is doing.

First of all Jax is the largest city by a pretty large margin.

Second, Tampa and Miami are quite different. Miami has waaaay more of a Latin influence. Latin influence is really non-existant in the Tampa area.

Third, There is absolutely no competition or tenseness whatsoever between the two that I'm aware of.

I was going by metro areas, not the city proper.

Oh, okay.

I would say there is competition between the #1 and # 3 metros.

I think Orlando is trying to compete to be the next Miami.

Actually, I think the crime rate in the Orlando area is worse.

Sorry to get off topic. Besides the whole metro thing, I stand by the rest of my original post.

I think Tampa and Orlando rival each other the most compared to any other two cities in FL. Theyre right next to each other and they have around the same size metro population the same climate the same demographics, similar political views etc. South FL/Miami is a different world, you can't really compare them because they are so different. Miami is tropical, much larger, more liberal, more urban and is pretty much ran by Latin Americans.

It's strange and not to sound egotistical but Miami doesn't really think too much about the other metros in Florida as rivalary except of course when it comes to sports!

Coming from a Tampa native, I don't think there is any sort of rivalry whatsoever. If there is one, it's between the people who wear their area code on their clothing. 813 v. 305. Mainstream Tampa doesn't care about Miami one way or another.

No one has answered the question word for word here LOL.

Lived in Tampa for years...lived in Miami for 2 years. Tampa is very much intimidated by Miami. They aren't rivals though. Hell they are almost 300 miles apart, separated by a 100 mile swamp. They are 2 minds too far apart.

I tried to get so many of my Tampa friends to come visit me in Miami. Their excuse was either money or they 'wanted to rent a hummer and show up in style'. Never happened.

People in Tampa who never been to Miami will wait years and years to go thinking they have to have millions in the bank for a 3 day vacation.

People in Miami go to Tampa once, then never go again because alot of Tampanians are racist plus its sooo boring in Tampa (unless you have developed some friendship circle). But I miss those fine ass Tampa Puerto Ricans though I would lose my virginity all over again if I ever get a chance to go back...
