We are considering putting our house on the market. We have been kicking around the idea of moving to Florida since October and I REALLY want to relocate, but now my hubby has lost his job.

He has applied to the Coleman and Suwannee Prisons, and the FHP, all before he lost the job here. I still have my job here, but 60% of our income is now missing until he finds something else. I want to look for a job there, but don't know where to start.

Our real estate agent already had people interested in our house, and we haven't even listed it yet. The sellers market is healthier here than it is there, and I don't want to miss the opportunity, but... I can't decide whether to take a leap of faith, list the house, chance someone making an offer, and then have no where to go until hubby gets a job offer in Florida.

I have no idea how long it takes to hear from the prisons once you apply online, and the FHP process is very long. If he gets hired he may not start the academy until October, if then. By then the selling season will be over. He would be in the academy for 7.5 months, and me and our toddler daughter would be stuck in Indiana until our house sells.

Sorry this is so long, but I'm hoping somebody who is neutral can see a simple solution here.

Your in a tough spot. I would make sure before you move to Florida that your husband has a job waiting for him especially in this economy. On the flip side, if you have enough money to live for at least a year without any income, then I might say go for it. Put your house on the market and move to Florida without a job. Only if you have that years savings. You could also, put your house on the market, if it sells, move into a month to month place up north. Then when he gets the job in Florida move down, but that is a lot of moving possibly.

Your husband needs to make an appointment and go in person for the job. Thousands file on line and at best they pick the cream of the crop and worse don't respond to any and only hire locally. You have to work for the job you want. On line applications just seems like a cop out. If I was hiring, all things being equal I would lean toward the one I meet in person.

According to both websites, online is the only way to apply. It doesn't say anything about where to pick up paper applications. This is on par with the way most federal and state jobs hire...

Just reading what you wrote and not knowing any more, I would say go for it. You only live once and what's the worse that could happen?

People that complain there are 'no jobs' out there have simply not adapted, looked hard enough, were not willing to take a lesser job, or must be horrible at interviews, or have an awful past.

My vote: Do it.

It's risky, but if you get a decent price for your home and can live on what you have for a while, I say at least come and check things out in person.
