I was wondering about the area between Tallahassee and Jacksonville....
Thinking about a place with acres and don't know any of the neighborhoods. I've heard Jacksonville is pretty crime ridden. Is this true? Also, are these areas southern? Are there places you can take your dog on a leash? Like a park or beach? Are all areas prone to flooding?

Thanks.

Sounds like you could live just outside Tallahassee.

Surrounding suburbs and counties are nice.

Tallahassee is Hilly.

Between Tallahassee and Jacksonville is "inland" and we're pretty much lacking beaches here. We let you walk your dog any where you like! These areas are "southern" as you are just below Georgia. Jacksonville is having a pretty hard time with crime. Flooding can occur anywhere, depends upon how low the land is and how much water you get. I'm not really trying to be a smart alec, just answering questions. You are talking about the I-10 corridor and it has a lot of small towns, the biggest is Lake City.

I don't know if it is a concern to you, but Jacksonville has a pollution problem (check scorecard, heart and lung assoc etc). Tallahassee seems to have one of the best air quality profiles in the state. For some reason, this dosen't get discussed often when comparing cities, but it is a consideration for me.

Pollution is a concern for me. I had no idea about Jacksonville, I have only heard nice things, now it seems like people are only talking about the crime and no jobs and pollution now. Is there a lot of space/land taken up by the military or is that more west? Thanks.

Doesn't seem to be very much info or talk on these areas. Are they considered redneck areas, southern areas, country areas, florida areas? I have no idea. Do they differ from Pensacola area? I know they differ from Miami area.

Interesting question. Everything between Tallahassee and Jacksonville is the rural Deep South. You have small towns, agriculture, pine forests, rednecks, country folks, old money, with a few Northern retirees sprinkled in (like anywhere in Florida).

I'm being very general here, but going west from Tallahassee, you have a little bit more open agriculture. More cotton and other crops. East of Tallahassee is more tree farms.

The Panhandle has the military influence, which makes it a little more diverse in terms of demographics. Plus you have the coastal areas like Panama City, Fort Walton Beach, and Pensacola.

The presence of the beach definitely gives the Panhandle a different feel than east of Tallahassee, especially in the coastal counties, in my opinion.

Overall, it's more rural east of Tallahassee. Jasper, Live Oak, Macclenny, Madison, and Monticello are all smaller than the towns west of Tallahassee like Crestview, DeFuniak Springs, Milton, and the coastal towns.

Towns like Chipley, Bonifay, and Marianna however are more similar to the towns east of Tallahassee just because they are not near the beach.

I know I've been rambling, but I hope that helps.
