I use about 4 - 5 quarter sized slices of ginger. I mince it up finely.

The other rice dish that I learned from my grandmother is regular long or short grain rice with sweet or glutenous rice. I usually do the ratio of 4:1 (regular rice to sweet rice). Wash the rice and cook normally.

The "topping" is your choice of a ground meat. She used ground pork, I use ground chicken or turkey. Green pea (not canned as they are too soft), scrambled egg cut into matchsticks, diced green onions, diced shiitake mushrooms and diced dried shrimp. You sauté the toping all together until the ground meat is cooked medium rare. Throw in soy sauce, sesame oil, salt and pepper. When the rice is half cooked (when there is no more water at the top), you put the topping on and let the entire mixture steam. All the rice is infused with all the toppings goodness.

My friend is like that. Rice is her favorite food. I like it, but maybe once or twice a month. Potatoes are my carb that I could eat every day. For some people it's pasta--I can take it or leave it.

Maybe it's what we grew up with.

Oh my, I love rice in savory dishes but I simply detest rice pudding!

Only savory rice for me.

I love rice too! My mom used to make me some of that good Texas rice when I was a kid. Nowadays, I like wild rice and chicken flavored rice too now.

Believe it or not, but I love rice pudding. Haven't had it in years now though. Do they still sell them at stores?
