For those who like to fry their Thanksgiving Turkey in peanut oil, be aware, the same factors that are being discussed in http://www.city-data.com/forum/food-...-going-up.html probably will also lead to price increase in peanut oil.

That stinks for the turkey-frying folks, but I never understood why you would fry the dang thing anyway. That's terrible for you and not all that good anyway!

Folks who fry turkeys claim that it's is quicker and juicier than other turkey-cooking methods, and you always have the thrill of burning down your house to think about.

Have you ever had a properly deep fried turkey?

DAMN its good. Minimal extra calories added when cooked at the right temp. Plus you cant get a juicer turkey when deep fried correctly.

I don't even like turkey (Yeah yeah, I know I am the only one in the world that doesn't.) and have always wanted to taste a fried one. But I would be too skeered I'd burn my house down to try and cook one myself.

I saw peanut oil yesterday at Walmart for 31.98 (or something like that) for a big thing (5 gallon?). I completely agree, if they are done correctly, they are delicious. If they aren't, just nasty! BIL cooked one once for Thanksgiving that was horrible. Of course, he used no seasoning at all, and cooked it the day before, and brought it to our house cold. DH has done them, with all the yummy seasoning and served up hot, they are wonderful.

I've had fried at a friend's and it is yummy!

I always over-bake ours...but have wondered over the years how much extra cost using all that oil adds. I know you can re-use the oil for other things, but does anyone really do that?
