Open the 1/2 gallon container, take a cup ( regular size) and a spoon. File the cup with ice cream, close the container with the lid, place THE CONTAINER back in the freezer.
Eat your ice cream from the cup. That's 2 servings anyway. Should leave you satisfied

It SHOULD, but it doesn't. I purchased a half gallon tonight. You should see the damage it did to it. I'll have to go and buy another one tomorrow.
So quit buying the half gallons. Buy the tiny little containers from Ben and Jerrys and Haagen Dazs. They are available in most supermarkets ice cream section. If you cannot control having more than one container in the house, just buy 1.
You can also make your own "ice cream" with frozen fruit, some sweetener, and a non-dairy milk of your choice. Then you can eat the whole thing and not feel guilty.
I think it was a year ago that I last bough ice cream. Usually it is a stop at an ice cream shop once or twice a month. Now the good homemade ice cream... I would hoover the whole batch in a hurry.
Definitely go with those little containers that were mentioned. They're so cute, and the Ben & Jerry's and Haagen Dazs even both come with little plastic spoons in the lids.
That way you can eat it all in one sitting and not feel guilty because it is a single-serving item. Just don't go opening a second one. Oh, and the cookie dough is my fave.
You can eat a half gallon of ice cream in one day, all you have to do is stay on the treadmill long enough to burn it all off. To compensate for that many calories that probably means something like eight hours!
Seriously, I have often thought that instead of the time setting, my treadmill should have settings like "onion rings" and "pizza" and "chocolate chip cookie." That way I wouldn't have to calculate how long I need to walk or run to burn off the calories I indulged in.
Quit buying what you KNOW you cannot stay away from and seek professional therapy. Your issue is NOT the ice cream it is something else that is causing you to eat the way you do. You CAN eat only one serving of anything you just don't seem to WANT to for whatever reason. It could be a food addiction, depression, or some sort of medical issue. Seek help to get past whatever the issue is and move forward. Personally I am addicted to caffeine, sugar and nicotine but I still as a general rule eat one serving because I am aware of my addiction and over the years I have disciplined myself to control what I eat and how much I eat.
I have the same problem. If it's in the house, I will eat it. So, I don't bring it home. If I want ice cream, I go to the store, buy the expensive one serving, and eat that. If someone brings goodies for a bash, I send home the leftovers for their enjoyment later, thanking them profusely for the treat.
Or I just eat it all the next day and feel miserable.
