Not all that much.We went to HOJO's,The NCO club after church,one of my earliest memories is my Dad taking me to Burger King waaaay back when they had a neon king for the sign-early 60s.We used to go to Bonanza and Sizzler in the 70s.
My family only went out on Friday and Saturday nights only for dinners. Now that I am married and live in a different state, I admittedly do eat out more often than before. Not during the week though, only Fridays and Saturdays. But instead of eating only dinners out, we will eat lunch AND dinner out on both weekend days. I really do miss my mom's home cooking and the places they went
Take Out Taxi was the name of the service that you'd call for service of different kinds of restaurants. I remember that well. One time we orderd Uno's and used take out taxi and it took 2 hours because the guy forgot after that we stopped using them.
ours was go4itexpress. it sometimes took a long time since the restaurant wasnt the same people doing the delivery and of course when you add places it takes longer. but it was very convenient for us.

LOL yeah LI had Take out taxi. It did not last long maybe 2 years. Now you can order your food online and then go pick it up.
Never, never, never. My mom would have loved the break from cooking occasionally, but my dad was and is a combo of very cheap, and very picky, so he would be surly about dining out. With a family of six, it was costly.
I love going out to eat, and my SO and I do it often. We look at it as something that can be easily trimmed if we need to tighten our budget, so we'll enjoy it when we can.
I also actually really like to cook, but I'm fine with not having to do the shopping and cleanup.

Howard Johnsons for fried clams was the BEST. I'm talking the mid 60's.
I never fry anything at home, since it is messy, but everything else, I think home is better...I can find some things which are acceptible substitutes at the grocery store, like potato salad and cole slaw.
We also lke Walmart Take and Bake Pizza.
My point is, if you know what quality tastes like, you can find premade food that is good, and don't appologize for it.
It depended on the economic status of our family, while was primarily based on how well our small business was doing and what lines of credit we had available to us.
We ate out about once a month when I was a young child (age 5 - 10). Places I remember us going were Old Country Buffet, which was my favorite restaurant at the time because of the selection; The Elbo Room in Superior, a local Italian restaurant; Red Lobster; The Lakeview Castle, where my dad would have his occasional feasts on expensive lobster; Louies' Cafe, where we would sometimes go for breakfast; The Coney Island; and take-out Sammy's Pizza and Pizza Hut or the Jade Fountain (a Chinese restaurant), in which case we usually got McDonalds.
Later on, we suffered some business setbacks, and for a long time I don't remember eating out at all. In the midst of it, though, I have fond memories of going to a Chinese buffet each Sunday after football in October 1998.
Our golden age of dining out was probably between 2005 and 2006. We had several meals out each week then, including the ever-common lunch at the store from T-Bones. Heck, we even ate at the posh (by Duluth standards) Bellisio's once a week. I remember my dad treating me to it before my departure and after my (much thinner) arrival from Costa Rica (for a two-week Spanish trip), and I recount him getting a special table with a wide couch so I could lay down. Those were the days when we lived like we were dying, or at least my father did; and he died unexpectedly in 2006. My mother was caught at the store, and I ate out regularly aside from my family at such establishments as Va Bene (Italian), India Palace, Taj India, Burrito Union, Zen House, etc., etc. I grimace at how much I spent on eating out during that period.
We would go to the Burger King not far away maybe 3 or 4 times a year, a few more if we were on a trip, it was usually a pretty big treat. When I was a little older, my parents got on this church kick, and for about a year or so we would go to Shoneys maybe one a month after church.
