Had a couple slices for a late night snack a few days ago. Oh was it good. How could I have forgotten that favorite from when I was a little kid? White bread, room temp butter, and go! Actually any kind of bread one likes would do.
Old school. Growing up, my grandma, a WWII-Era farm wife, would not have considered putting a meal on the table without bread and butter. It was something that just was, no question.
Now, I seldom have it unless dining out at a place that does a bread basket with starters.
I will still do a trio of round loaves of Irish-style savory soda bread (no to the adding of sugar or currants or raisins, sorry), and slice and serve it warm with butter. Mmmm.
Haha!!! That reminds me of someone long time ago who complained that his mother being very savvy always butter the smaller side of the bread slice...
(considering a loaf that doesn't have even, square slices like a toast bread)
I hate toast bread, but I would enjoy a slice of fresh crispy baguette with butter just soft enough to be spread... or any German style rye with crispy crust. (not sure why so many people prefer soft "crust" over crispy) For me bread without crust isn't a bread
