The potassium and calcium in yogurt are also good at relieving leg cramps at night, for folks who have that complaint.

Both cultured dairy products like yogurt and buttermilk, and fermented foods like sauerkraut and pickles have long been known to be supportive of good health and long life... and now we know that is due to their probiotic bacterial cultures.

I'm assuming the article is referring to that nasty Greek yogurt instead of Yoplait?

I eat the plain, low fat one every day--mostly for bone health, but it's good for immune health, too. Not that crazy about Greek yogurt, plus it has less calcium.

Good grief! What's with all the unhappiness with Greek yogurt?

The main difference from the more familiar "Yoplait" type yogurts is that Greek yogurt is thicker, and has a richer texture, because it has had much of its whey strained off.

Seriously, comparing apples to apples.... Yoplait plain unflavored vs Chobani plain unflavored, or Yoplait black cherry vs Chobani black cherry, or whatever, the main difference the average person will notice is that the Chobani is thicker, and some would say creamier.

So what's to yuck about?

Bulgarian style yogurt, on the other hand, now THAT is really different, with a very sour taste that you have to learn to like.

Much of the yoghurt you get at the supermarket tastes good because there's a lot of sugar in it.

I love yoghurt with the chunks of fruit in it myself.

Yoghurt, muesli and fruits is like the perfect breakfast for me.

I wuv greek yogurt. I usually buy the fat free ones, but I accidently bought whole fat once and my goodness... it was like ice cream. It was amazing. But that fat content was not awesome enough to make me keep buying it. ha.

I remember my mom trying to get me to eat plain yogurt when I was a kid, and my goodness, talk about a legitimate tantrum. So disgusting. haha. I have the same reaction to this day though, if someone tries to get me to drink any kind of milk, plain. Blah.
