Oriental Americans? I haven't been called Oriental in years? Hey, Bulldog, are you Occidental?

Oh, yeah, I love my rice, especially jasmine rice.

About a year ago, it was the same story, except instead of lead, it was arsenic. When you buy your crap from China, you are getting exactly what you pay for. This is disturbing, as I cook with rice quite often.

I checked the bag of rice as I was making dinner tonight. It said "distributed by (grocery store), but didn't give a country of origin.

Fortunately it's easy enough to find and buy US produced rice. I use Cal Rose.

I only eat basmati rice from india. Once you taste it, you never go back to buying plain white rice.

Precisely why I've stopped shopping mostly at Wal Mart it only carries the distributed by label never country of origin. I've told my local managers you should do the same at your store for whatever good it will do.

I'm surprised at the assumption that US grown rice doesn't have issues to be aware of. This story was all over the news late last year:

Study: Arsenic Levels High In Texas Rice « CBS Dallas / Fort Worth.

And it's not new... here's one from about 8 years ago that actually explains the issue (or not) pretty well. Turns out most Americans don't really eat enough rice to worry about it much...

USATODAY.com - Researchers: Higher levels of arsenic in U.S. rice

One of the links I posted in the OTHER thread makes the point that the average American doesn't eat enough rice to really be concerned.

Lead in China, and arsenic in America... rice is a staple in my diet I know the amount of the toxins in these foods varies depending on the soil content, which in turn varies by geographic region. Which types of rice have the lowest levels, and from what regions? I hear basmati and jasmine rice are the safest, but I'd like more info.
