Usually I take meat for the BBQ. This one I'm going to doesn't have a BBQ.
What I'm after is something I can pick up from the supermarket, that needs zero preperation.
Eg. buy it and you are good to go.

Its for a lunch and would like it to be popular. Any Ideas?

Go to a good grocery store, Whole foods, Earth fare, fresh market etc. Peruse the deli/hot foods and get whatever looks good.

prepared, store purchased foods usually are not all that memorable. I would go to a gourmet type of store, like suggested, maybe Fresh Market or whatever you have and pick up some really good dips, like trader Joes popular blue cheese/pecan spread and get some out of this world crackers. Another sure hit, a really, really, good dessert. Again, you will need to go to the bakery for something that will make an impression. I am not one for purchasing ready made salads, they can be ok, but not meaningful. Most of them are just so/so.

Buy some dollar rolls and a container of chicken salad. Take a knife to put by the rolls so they can be cut.

Grab and go? The other day, I had a delicious dip, it was spicy deli salsa, poured over a block of cream cheese. I also love olives, you could get some olives, salami, cheese...crackers.
