What's unusual to you that you saw in a can?

For me would have to be a whole chicken intact in a can. Saw it at my grocery store and bought it as a conversation piece.

Where was that? I can't even begin to imagine. I think pigs feet is probably the most unusual thing I have ever seen.

It was $5 at Harris Teeter and I saw it on Chopped as an ingredient. It does not look like what you see on the can. It's quivering and pale.

I wouldn't imagine it to look like it does on the can. It makes me wonder who actually uses that. If Food Network hasn't pissed me off so much with the whole Paula Deen saga, I would watch chopped to see what strange ingredients they find a use for.

Canned scorpions, canned cheeseburger, silkworm pupae, crickets, fish mouths (with teeth)...

All of those canned items in the can sound gross to me with exception of the duck fat, I would use that to fry potatoes in. I have had French fries fried in duck fat and it's amazing!

A canned cheeseburger just seems like a novelty gift. It makes me wonder what people have in their end of the world stashes.

canned/jarred whole chickens used to be quite common before electrification of rural areas and refrigeration. You only need one rooster in a henhouse and when hens get too old to lay eggs, they become dinner. But if you have too many to butcher and eat before they'll spoil, or a long winter season and not much meat or game that's salt-cured in the smokehouse, then canning was the alternative. Some folks have kept the skill and some producers still keep it available for emergency rations, etc.

I've tried that. Very bland and almost disgusting. It's not worth the trouble of opening it.

On the other hand, I used to eat pickled lambs tongues which sounds disgusting, but were very good - I don't think they're available anymore.
