Dirt Grinder: I blame the over weight society on lack of exercise as much as high fat. we ate and we didn't have machines doing everything for us. Kids walked everywhere or rode their bikes, we had to change the TV channel, many of us were 1 car families, we hung clothes on the line, we ironed, etc.
We had desserts occasionally. When fruits were in season we had pies and strudel. Our parents
grew vegetable gardens in our tiny city lots. Our parents walked to the avenue to buy groceries,
clothes, fish, shoes, doctor visits, etc. unlike driving everywhere, and carried things back home.
There was no junk food in the house. We didn't sit in front of a tv screen all day but played. When I had children I lived in an area where I was able to do the same. They used to get so mad that we didn't
have all the junk snacks like their friends did but later as they got older they realized we did the
right thing and thanked us.
I used to like LJS as a kid and ate there about once a month right up until the location near my house closed down. When I went off to college there was a LJS down the street from campus so I ate there for old time's sake. Yuck. Haven't been back since then.
I haven't eaten there, but an occasional meal with a lot of salt and fat isn't going to hurt anyone. It's the total of what you eat all week and not one meal that is going to sink your boat.
If you want to eat fish and chips one night, then compensate by having a healthy lunch that day, or for dinner the next night.
The primary health risk identified for trans fat consumption is an elevated risk of coronary heart disease (CHD).[54] A 1994 study estimated that over 30,000 cardiac deaths per year in the United States are attributable to the consumption of trans fats.[55] By 2006 upper estimates of 100,000 deaths were suggested.[56] A comprehensive review of studies of trans fats published in 2006 in the New England Journal of Medicine reports a strong and reliable connection between trans fat consumption and CHD, concluding that "On a per-calorie basis, trans fats appear to increase the risk of CHD more than any other macronutrient, conferring a substantially increased risk at low levels of consumption (1 to 3% of total energy intake)".[47][57]
The major evidence for the effect of trans fat on CHD comes from the Nurses' Health Study — a cohort study that has been following 120,000 female nurses since its inception in 1976. In this study, Hu and colleagues analyzed data from 900 coronary events from the study's population during 14 years of followup. He determined that a nurse's CHD risk roughly doubled (relative risk of 1.94, CI: 1.43 to 2.61) for each 2% increase in trans fat calories consumed (instead of carbohydrate calories).
33 grams of trans fats is not ok "every once in a while." 33 grams of trans fats per month greatly increases your risk of heart disease.
The people talking about moderation. 33 grams of trans fats every once in a while is about as ok as a little strychnine every once in a while.
33 grams of trans fats every once in a while absolutely is going to kill you. It's ridiculous that man-made trans fats are even legally allowed in food. We've banned far less harmful additives.
LJS is no doubt bad but I wonder if posting a lot on CD or watching CD is far worse. When the weather permits, gardening outside is a better meal for the body. And my stats show I'm guilty to a degree but most of those stats occurred at night playing games to keep the mind active and therefore a form of brain exercise. I see many thin people eating fast food. It's a balance. Regular trips to any fast food and them home to watch TV for video games or CD are not a good combo. McDonalds didn't start an obesity problem. TV and Video games as well as jobs in an air conditioned office instead of manual labor. Studies are so flawed.
I think what so many people forget: an occasional meal like this isn't going to kill any of us. A daily diet of fats and sodium might. I have never really like LJ Silvers' and probably haven't eaten at one for 6 or 7 years. We did have one in NM that I drove thru a time of two, but I think too many people seem to think everyone makes a meal out of places like that daily...
This one: moderation in everything.

I've read KFC is loaded with man-made MSG. Something some people have to steer clear of, immoderately.
I only said that they suck because our last experience there, long ago, was horrific.
