I admit up front that I detest grocery shopping, and avoid it whenever possible. Wondering how often others shop for food.

We do one big grocery shopping trip each week. There are a few things I'll stop and get throughout the week because I either want it fresh or because dinner plans change. So I usually go about 3 times. The grocery store is only a few blocks away from my house, so its easy to just stop for a few things on the way home.

On average, usually about 2 to 3 times a week. I always run out of one staple or the other - I need to buy tomatoes and cheese.

I put once a month -- I just got back from my major monthly trip to Walmart, where I stock up on packaged/canned/frozen foods, cheese, eggs, etc. I look for things with the longest expiration date. I don't eat much fresh food, which explains why I can go so long between shopping trips, plus I'm single. I might run out for half/half or something small in-between major runs.

But I generally hate grocery shopping/putting it all away. I waffle between buying fewer things more often, or making one large trip. Right now, I'm unemployed and don't get out much. When I was working, it was very easy just to stop on my way home and pick up a few things.

Couple of times a week. We don't usually plan meals far in advance because we aren't always hungry in the evening.

A few times a week, and so far I'm heartened to see that others on the poll do the same thing!

I know people who only go once a week, or even once a month, but I can't imagine planning that far ahead. I do work most days and am single, and tend to stop at the grocery store/deli pretty much depending what I feel like eating that day.

Sometimes when I can get it together and plan a few meals, I can stretch my trips out, but I am not the type who could write out two weeks of meals and then stick to it- I never know what I will feel like eating until its that day and time. This is the aspect that annoys me the most about cooking at home, even though I love to cook.

Best case scenario is that I make a few dishes I can freeze in individual portions (soups are great), so I will have those on hand when I am in the mood, and then that I will actually feel like eating the perishables before they go bad. I hate wasting food.

I do a big shop once a week, at a grocery store further away (than the one I go to a few times during the week)-
so that adds up to multiple trips each week.

I shop once a month for all the pantry stuff and frozen foods, but I have to buy bread and produce once a week.

I shop for groceries way too often, and tend to go to favorite stores when I'm near them. My husband likes to eat based on what he craves that particular day, so it's hard to plan in advance.
