Hiya!

Since our boy is turning 2 on Thanksgiving weekend (and many people are out of town, etc), we thought we'd just do a lunch and cake with some close friends on Saturday.

My question is...what to serve ~15 people for lunch.

I thought catering from a local restaurant people really like, but then I wondered if it wasn't enough people for that much food. Then there will be kids...

I dunno. It is complicated by the fact that I am working the two days before (Thurs/Fri), so I can't be cooking. Plus everyone will have stuffed themselves 2 days before...

What do you think?

Keep it light! Tuna salad sandwiches (some with minced celery and apple & pinch of sugar) and some crackers and spreads of some sort. Maybe some pie ...

Have a pizza party. Order a few pies, maybe some salad, maybe even a sub sandwich tray. Almost everyone likes pizza.

Oh...I felt a little cheezy ordering a pizza...but like big sub and maybe some shrimp cocktails and veggie trays, you think?

Have to figure out when to get all this stuff before the party...working till 2am both nights before. That's why catering came to mind first.
Cool.

What do you think toddler kiddies like? My kid eats EVERYTHING but I know from friends that is totally weird. Is there a toddler staple that most of them will eat?

Are you near a Costco where you can order a mixed wrap platter? Turkey-cheese wraps, roast beef wraps, tuna wraps, hummus wraps, etc. That with a veggie platter, drinks & b-day cake would do it!

The wraps we have gotten at work from Costco are cut in small servings that work for kids too.

Subway also does mixed sub platters.

Have fun!

I agree on keeping it simple something that the birthday boy would like. 15 or 20 people sounds kind of overwhelming for a 2 year old. He needs to feel "he" is special on that day.

LOL! I was gonna get my shrimp cocktail platter there! I got that one year and it was eaten in five seconds! The whole freakin' platter downed in no time.

Well, he eats everything and he is used to being the center of attention in a crowd. Sadly. He is the only grandkid on this side of the family.

I'm not worried about what he eats. The kid is an adventurous eater that will try anything at least once.
He loves kids and is in those gym classes where they all run around together and do stuff and he is extremely outgoing.

Simple food sounds like a good idea.

How about Soft Tacos? Use pre-prepared Chicken Strips and Fish Sticks (Fish Tacos are terrific) with a spread of flour tortillas, cole slaw (for Fish Tacos), lettuce, tomato, shredded cheeses, guacamole(buy pre-prepared), sour cream and salsas. The kids can try different combos and it's fairly healthy.
