About once a month I need a fast easy supper and tonight is that night. Fish fillets and rice with green peas (combined).

I've done this so long I can do it in my sleep.

Then I realized I almost always serve broccoli with chicken, chicken fried steak and mashed potatoes (excuse for all that gravy) polish sausage with potatoes, chili and corn bread, quiche and fruit salad.
I might add something else like a salad or other green veggie but I don't think I've ever put potatoes and chicken together but sometimes do put chicken and rice together. Beef and green beans and a starch. I was taught to always have one protein, 2 green veggies (salad counts) and 1 starch which is either rice or potatoes. never serve bread when potatoes or rice are also served. Just my mama's rules I always kept to.

just wondering what your go- to combinations are.

My standards:
(extra veggies I usually include, they're not listed)

Chili & cornbread
Biscuits & gravy, with scrambled eggs on the side
Fried chicken & homemade mashed potatoes
Polish sausage & potato pancakes
Meatloaf & mashed potatoes
Baked chicken & rice
Pasta & warm fresh garlic bread
Italian sausage, red sauce & rolls
Sloppy joes & mac n cheese
Stuffed peppers with mashed potatoes
(throw some red sauce on the potatoes- yum)

I love two and threat meat combos.

Eggs with both bacon and sausage.

Steak and lobster.

Steak with shrimp and or crab-legs.

Fish and frog-legs.

BBQ ribs and fried catfish.

Steak wrapped with bacon.

Steak, grilled chicken, grilled shrimp fajitas. (local Tex-Mex place has a special like this).

Sides can be nearly anything and seem to favor a salad and at least two other sides with it.

I also like hot rolls with cinnamon butter or hot buttered bread.

Steak, grilled chicken, grilled shrimp fajitas. (local Tex-Mex place has a special like this).

With grilled and caramelized onions, green peppers on a sizzling skillet brought to your table.
Melted three blend cheese.
Guacamole
Lettuce
Spanish rice
Re-fried beans
Tomatoes
Hot grilled fresh fajitas.

Whew, I'm wanting that right now.

Maybe Saturday night!!

Yum!!

I really like any pork and asparagus. I make pork tenderloin and for some reason potatoes doesn't go with pork in my mind but any green veggie will, especially asparagus. But strangely enough I don't have any problem with a breakfast of pork sausage or bacon, hash browns and biscuits.

God I love these foodie threads.

No, I mix my foods up a fair bit.

I'm always trying new things and combos.

I want my own restaurant one day so I don't mind a bit of invention.

ETA: I have to have white bread for my Vegemite, if that counts? And a cup of tea with a poached egg on toast.
