I would eat more bread, I like the fancy artisian stuff, but it's too much for me to eat without half of it going stale. I read putting bread in the refridgerator is a big no-no. There is some science behind the reasoning, the way the starches re-crystalize, something like that.

I've heard putting it in the freezer is the best bet, slows down that recrystalization process, but I've always have freezer thawed bread still be hard on the ends.

Does anyone use a bread box? I sprung for one and am crossing my fingers it will work. At the most, it will be put away in something better than the platic grocery bag.

Gee, I hadn't even thought about those for years. We always had one as a kid or a bread drawer, but I really don't know how much fresher it kept our bread. The new ones might be different. I know what you mean about not being able to use an entire loaf. We get this great bread from Aldi's and ther are 2 of us. It is rare we finish a loaf befor it starts to go bad.

If I had the counter space, I would use one.

We had a bread drawer with a tin liner, growing up, and so did my grandparents' house, but they don't seem to be standard anymore with contemporary cabinetry. I think they are a throwback to a time when house mice were more prevalent, as the tin lining formed a mouse-proof barrier.

Not for bread, but I use one to store tea and hot chocolate.

Me late sainted mum used to have a pink metal breadbox. I've got a nice big wooden one, but I keep forgetting to put our bread in it. I just lay the bread in front of it...

There's a narrow drawer at the top for pies, or tortillas, pitas, etc. on mine.

I have a bread drawer and as I make my own bread I store it in paper bags. It doesn't sweat and stays fresh for 3 or 4 days ... if DH doesn't get to it first

Once I have more space in my kitchen, I'm going to get or make an Amish-style pie safe.

My mother has a bread box. I put dibs on it in her will. I honestly don't know what she stores in it, since she lives alone, and keeps her bread either in the refrigerator or her freezer.

I don't buy bread. We're not sandwich eaters. I just want the box!

No, but I probably wouldn't want it taking up counter space anyway. We keep our bread in the freezer, unless we plan to use it up in a couple of days.

the bread box,, you don't see them in the new kitchens,,,i painted one chrome color to almost match a stainless steel kitchen,,,as a joke and I ended up selling it...

also made a marble bread box.....

I like bread box's when I was showing a lot of homes,,, it always interested me about the bread box's because many would be passed down from a grand mother and have sentimental value

same as cookie jars, and pitchers
