How many sides do you make with dinner? Not for the holidays, of course, but for regular dinners during the week?
I usually make a meat, a starch and a vegetable. Sometimes I make two vegetables.
I'm in a cooking group on Facebook, though, and a lot of people make 2 starches and 3 veggies every night!
I agree - two starches seems like a lot for an "every day" dinner....unless you count some hot bread as a starch?
I might even skip the starch if the main dish is some kind of casserole or has a lot of individual ingredients that would make heavy enough or interesting/flavorful enough to kind of stand on it's own.
Whatever I have on hand. Right now apples and pears are cheap so I'll just slice one up and split it between the three of us. Other times I'll serve grapes or melon if they are on sale.

Very seldom a starch....but normally it's protein and a salad. Sometimes a protein and a veg. We did have shrimp alfredo carbonara....so we had a starch with the pasta.

Yummy. I love fresh fruit so much, but my hubby won't eat it. He's not a big veggie eater, either, but I make him. I just buy the little fresh-cut fruit salad at the grocery store for me. It's my favorite dessert/snack ever. I also buy bananas. It just gets too costly to buy a bag of apples or a big melon because I know I won't eat it all before it goes bad.

Your store doesn't carry individual apples? I never buy the bags...you have no clue if all of them inside are decent.
