I'm tasked with making an entree for our dinner group. This month's theme is Oktoberfest. Ugh - Not my favorite cuisine, for sure! This is pot luck at someone else's home, so last minute cooking/frying is not possible.

Another guest is bringing the other entree which will be a pork roast with apples and potatoes. I was going to make a slow cooked kraut with a variety of German sausages. But now I find that I am unable to find a variety of German sausages in my are (I'm checking cities within a 2 hour drive!).

Using only one kind of sausage just sounds boring to me, and we've done kielbasa and kraut for Polish night. I'm looking for Plan B in case I can't find a variety of German sausages.

Suggestions?

I know this isn't the Raleigh-Durham forum, but have you checked Southern Season, The Butchers Market in Cary, or even the German Grille in Cary?

^^^ Golabki are Polish, not German.

What about rouladen? https://goo.gl/ZmI0vE <<< my favourite!
Spoiler

make with red cabbage and German dumplings - from a box

or a schnitzel with potato salad? It could be served cold (room temp)... https://goo.gl/Pzsnqf
or smoked pork chops with sauerkraut? http://goo.gl/oqqz48
Cordon bleu with mashed potatoes? http://goo.gl/n43pOn

Here you can find MANY, many ideas and recipes. Nothing ever close to boring

Agree about the goblaki.

I'm ONLY making the entrée. Other guests bring appetizers, sides, desert, etc. All based on a theme - every other month. We've already dobe Polish. This is German month. Next time it's Ethiopian!

I love schnitzel, but hot. Can't really imagine it cold.

The beef rouladen may be JUST THE TICKET! Thanks!
