I drink 1 beverage maybe every month or two. I effectively consider myself a 'non-drinker' in social terms. I like the taste of beer, wine, but dont like the effects and never have. And I tried valiantly in the past to fit in. In college I regularly got drunk, but it just never set well with me and I always would get terrible hangovers.
Finally in my 30's I made peace with myself and make no more apologies or explanations to anyone.

Some people care, some people don't...
I can see how some people would feel uncomfortable imbibing while there's a stone-cold sober person sitting nearby though... it must make some intoxicated people feel self-conscious. If you can't remember the night before, that's comical, until you realize someone else in the room might remember the entire thing...
