For instance if you cranberries dried fruit in a bag do you wash them like you might fresh fruit or vegetables?

Any hazards to eating dried fruit? Like chemicals or something?

I usually do not. They have been processed (dried, packaged), so I assume they are clean and ready to consume.

Washing dried fruit never, ever crossed my mind and it would take a lot to convince me that it was necessary. I sometimes have to pick a few stems out of the raisins, though.

No! I soak over night some fruit especially wild blueberries. I use them to make pies. Just add corn starch and thicken. Pour into baked pie crust and cook. Use this method for fruit to bake with.

Since I eat with my eyes first, I'd rather have the sulphur dioxide than eat withered looking gray-brown dried fruit.

My favorite dried fruits are apples and (california-style) apricots. Trader Joe's is the best place to get the apricots (price and quality), but I usually get the apples at Sprout's.

Adding water to dried fruit will start to rehydrate it. You only do this if you're going to cook with it.

I love dates, I eat them right out of the bag, it never entered my head to wash them, surely that would mess up the texture?

That's a very misleading statement..and would scare anybody off.

I have purchased MANY packages of dried fruit that are visually fine yet and don't fit your description.
