People have long known French fries aren't great for your health—but now a study has linked eating fried potatoes at least twice a week with an increased risk of death.
The study, published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, looked at potato consumption in 4,400 older people between ages 45 and 79 over the course of eight years. By the end of the study, 236 people had died.
Lots of people! Some literally live on fast food like McD...
But this study is not actually about eating fries, but eating FRIED food. Fried potatoes, however, typically have lots of fat and added salt. Fried food is typically soaked in fat.
Maybe that's true because of the inflammation that is caused by fried foods in general, but hey I am not going to stop eating fries. I may not eat it every day but it's going to be a part of my life till I go, maybe I won't live to be a 100 but at least I enjoyed myself. McDonald's fries are the BEST, well my mother makes some good fries, too - they are thicker, lightly crunchy on the outside and creamy potato on the inside!
I'd bet an air fryer would reduce any risk to near zero. Air fryers work amazing well and give great texture to fries and other things you'd normally fry with oil.
^^^^ Air fryers produce food that is exceptionally healthier than traditionally fried foods. They produce food that has up to 80% less fat than oil fried foods, apparently without sacrificing the taste. Well, I am not sure about that last statement.
Most people believe that tasty food must be fatty, sweet or salty....
I like to chop potatoes and onions and put them in the oven with some olive oil, garlic and various other seasonings. Not big on fries, I don't think they taste good enough to be worth the calories. Being vain might pay off!
