Well... it's a bit more complicated than that. After all, some microwaves have metal racks, and have you ever wondered how that microwaveable pizza box gets the bottom of the crust crispy?
Yep - some metal is fine - it has to be smooth I was told. And not all metals will work - some will still arc due to their content. So husband doesn't put ANY metal in it just to be sure.
I have never seen any arcing or sparking when microwaving food and I've been using microwaves for almost 40 years now. And lots of times I'm standing there watching and waiting for my food to finish cooking. So if there ever was any arcing and sparking, I would have seen it by now.
